Anxiety comes in many forms. Panic, agoraphobia, compulsive thoughts, obsessive behavior, fear of the future, on and on. Anxiety can even become intertwined with other problems like depression or substance abuse. My treatment approach for anxiety problems comes out of the cognitive behavioral tradition. That means that we will identify the thoughts, feelings, and history related to your anxiety, and find ways to respond to them.
In particular, my treatment is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). With this empirically-based approach, we can respond to your anxiety in a way that diminishes its power over you and gets you back to living your life.
I realize that you have probably tried many times and in many ways to beat your anxiety. That’s why my methods are highly individualized. Each anxiety problem is unique. I want to understand how anxiety has functioned in your life so that, together, we can find a way to beat it.
What About Medication for Anxiety?
Medication typically is not a reliable long-term solution to anxiety problems. However, they can occasionally assist on the road to recovery. While I do not prescribe medication, I can work with your prescribing physician when medication intersects with our treatment.
